Gong Fu Online e-Magazine:   Chinese Martial Arts - Theory & Practice  /  Old Chinese Books, Treatises, Manuscripts

Issue: # 10 (September - October 2004)

With this issue of the magazine we finish the publication of books Jin Jing Zhong, "DIAN XUE SHU. Skill of Acting on Acupoints", (Tanjin, 1934) and Zhu Xia Tian, "Application of Pugilistic Art" (Shanghai, 1929). Also, we start to publish books Liu Jin Sheng, CHIN NA FA. Skill of Catch and Hold (Shanghai, 1936) and Tang Ji Ren, TANG SHI QUAN SHU: Pugilistic Art of the Tang Family. Outer techniques of DA HONG QUAN. (Hangzhou,1933). The first of them contains description of base training methods and combat techniques DA HONG QUAN and XIAO HONG QUAN.

During several centuries Shaolin monks used to start learning those traditional styles to acquire the Pugilistic Art. The second book deals with combat use of techniques CHIN NA which include a wide set of various methods: press and blows on vulnerable points, grappling, strangling, throws and so on. Both books are written as textbooks and supplied with great number of photographs and detailed description of given techniques, including their practical use. At present the books are being translated into English. They will be published in full in a few next issues of our magazine.

You can read introductory articles, prefaces and some chapters from these books in free trial version of our magazine (see below):
